All-New Marvel Now! Daredevil returns, not with a new creative team (thank god) but with a new direction, a new city, and a new first issue. After an astoundingly solid run on this last volume of Daredevil, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee return, picking up a bit after the last series with DD in San Francisco, helping the police department with his enhanced senses, and a nice reintroduction to the character, without taking up too much valuable real estate page wise. I really love DD since Waid took over, even though the stakes are always high, the danger real, Matt clearly loves what he does. There are some great touches (Matt using headphones to cancel noise in the room further, to enhance his sense of smell)and an actual wink from DD. Samnee is a great visual storyteller, his DD is kinetic, expressive, and fun! An interesting last page set-up with Foggy, who is…thought to be dead? Watching Matt in his office? At first I wasn’t super thrilled with starting DD again at #1 so soon after the last one, but in this case, I’m fine with it. The same great creative team, but a fresh start. Beautiful colors from Rodriguez, and always great letters from Caramagna. Great work too from editor Ellie Pyle. In honor of this new series, I’m going to take a look back at this previous run with an issue per week, coming soon. I hope plenty of people pick this book up, Waid on DD has been so consistently solid, with great art, and it seems like other books, or particular issues got more attention than DD, but it has been just rock-freakin’ solid, which really needs to be celebrated. Great to get another hero on the left coast.
