More Marvel #1’s

Marvel has been going #1 all over the place lately…get the piddle pads.

Moon Knight #1

Writer: Warren Ellis

Art: Declan Shalvey

Color Art: Jordie Bellaire

Letterer: Chris Eliopoulos

Moon Knight is back again, back with his own book, and back in New York. The first couple pages give you a primer on Moon Knight, and then into the story with MK helping the NYPD with a series of killings. MK sports a different look this issue, wearing his mask and a white suit. This first issue is pretty damn great, setting up the new series, great art and fantastic coloring. Seriously, Jordie Bellaire kills is, with MK himself basically B&W against some (as always) beautifully colored pages, making MK pop off the page, it’s a simple idea, but it works wonderfully. Good stuff!

Captain Marvel #1

Writer: Kelly Sue DeConnick

Art: David Lopez

Color Art: Lee Loughridge

Leterrer: VC’s Joe Caramagna

I sheepishly admit, I had kind of trailed off on the last series, but I’m glad DeConnick is still writing this book, I love her Carol. This book is setting things up for Carol to head off earth as a sort of Avengers liaison in space. Beautiful art from Lopez. Interested to see where this goes, will be added to my pull next time I hit up the shop.

New Warriors #1

Writer: Christopher Yost

Art: Marcos To

Color Art: David Curiel

Letterer: VC’s Joe Caramagna

The New Warriors are back! I am super excited, I loved the New Warriors were a favorite as a young lad back in the day, so I was excited to see this book. It’s basically a “gather our heroes together” issue and for that, it does fine. Glad to see Justice and Speedball together, new Nova, Sam has grown on me quite a bit. Scarlet Spider, who I really only know from that J.M. DeMatteis series around The Clone Saga era, that is criminally under-read, and some chick named Hummingbird. A new Namora, Sun Girl, and more, we are getting a mostly new New Warriors team. And that is just fine by me. I look forward to reading some more and seeing this new team in action. Just out of curiousity, can anyone tell me what’s happened with Justice and Firestar? Did they split after Civil War or something? Isn’t she floating around an X book these days? Anyway, glad to see this book.
